The renovation construction of Liangzhu townlet doesn't stop even over the weekends.
Yucong Road, a major road linking up the Laoji Town of Liangzhu, is connected with the East-West Way to the north, Moganshan Road to the south. As a bustling street, it is also exposed to “market town problems” such as environmental problems, incomplete infrastructure, a limited traffic capacity...The comprehensive renovation of the town this time is to clear out these problems.
Fengfeng Bookstore, a grassroots bookstore that has rooted in Liangzhu for 17 years, has been relocated for five times from the Liangzhu Stop of Bus No. 313, to the west of Shuikoutou River as it is located today.
To the bookstore owner Zhaoxia He, the relocation of the bookstore has something to do with the construction of Liangzhu. In these two years, she has unconditionally supported the renovation of Moganshan Road and Shuikoutou River. The size of the bookstore has increased from 13㎡ to 80㎡ as it is relocated. Through the renovation, the messy things piled up in front of the bookstore’s door have been cleared away, as a result, the road appears wider and the bookstore’s business is getting better.
The townlet renovation is unique compared with other constructions. Xunshan Village and Laoji Town are partially covered by the key cultural relic protection reserve. For this reason, issues of cultural relic protection have to be taken into consideration during the renovation.
“For the construction of rain-sewage pipes and the reconstruction of power pipelines, we have to dig the road’s surface. Once we spotted a tile which was believed to be a cultural relic and we immediately stopped our construction,” said Gao Xiaoping, the person taking charge of the townlet environment renovation project of Liangzhu Sub-district.
“During the renovation, we have always insisted on protecting the Liangzhu Archaeological Site. In the early stages, we got in contact with the Administration Committee of Liangzhu, the Provincial Institute of Archaeology and the Provincial Cultural Relics Administration for several times. In the course of construction, the Institute of Archaeology sent staff to the site to supervise the construction. Once the staff discovered any suspected site of ruins, the construction was suspended at once and a rescue excavation was carried out,” according to Gao Xiaoping.
