Meirendi Ruins, a historical site of the Neolithic Age, was located on the terrace east of Liangzhu Ancient City, where the foundation of buildings along the river and an ancient riverway of Liangzhu period were discovered.
Plank revetment was built for an artificial vertical bank. Among pottery shards unearthed from the riverway, many black pottery shards are engraved with exquisite patterns.
According to the archaeological excavation, there used to be a low-lying marsh wetland to the east of Liangzhu Ancient City. While building the city, Liangzhu people made a unified planning within a certain scope outside the city, during which several long terraces from east to west were built in the marsh, forming a complete riverway system.
