While the whole nation is now being emotionally and physically concerned with the coronavirus outbreak, students and teachers of China Academy of Art in Hangzhou have responded to the catastrophe with art, believing the whole nation must stand together to triumph over the killer disease.
Since February, students and teachers at School of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy have made a concerted endeavor to create artworks featuring the national heroism and solidarity in fighting COVID-19. These artworks including calligraphy, painting and seal engraving salute all the people working at the frontline and express best wishes for China’s eventual triumph over the outbreak.
International students have joined hands with their Chinese counterparts in the concerted endeavor. After learning about the endeavor, Maki Ishii from Tokyo Japan, now a doctoral student at Nanjing University of the Arts with a master’s degree in Chinese painting from China Academy of Art, created a work featuring a Buddha with a gesture made to exorcize devils.
