5. Zhejiang takes the lead in legislating to protect ancient roads
The Measures for the Protection of Ancient roads in Zhejiang province, which comes into effect in March this year, is the first local legislation to specifically protect ancient roads in China.
In order to make the restored ancient roads become an important part of its tourism and rural revitalization, Zhejiang focuses on the road network system, landscape system, cultural system, supporting facilities system, indication system and maintenance system, and fully explores the ecological and historical culture of the ancient roads. That the restored ancient roads can play a driving effect requires a long-term management mechanism, which is also the purpose of Zhejiang to promote legislation.
Since 2015, Zhejiang has invested more than 300 million yuan in the protection and repair of more than 200 ancient roads, with a total length of more than 1,500 kilometers.
