1. 72 thousand Made-in-Tibet masks help relieve epidemic burden in Hangzhou
Parcels consisting of 72,000 face masks that were produced in Nagchu, Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region, will be arriving in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province within the next few days, local media outlets reported. The masks are a token of appreciation from Nagchu, which has been receiving social and economic support from Hangzhou since last year.
The mask factory, which has a production line located at the highest altitude in China, was also established with Hangzhou's support. With a total of 4 million yuan ($628,400) in investment, the production line made it possible by taking only 15 days from the agreement of initial cooperative intention to the final operation.
2. Alumnus donates 250 million yuan to Zhejiang University in anonymity
The Zhejiang University Education Foundation recently announced that an alumnus of Zhejiang University has agreed to donate 250 million yuan ($39.28 million) over five years, local media reported on Dec 16. The money will be used to support the university's development and talent cultivation in the disciplines of physics, mathematics, and chemistry.
Located in the historic and picturesque city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang University is a prestigious institution with a long history. Qiushi Academy, the university's predecessor, was founded in 1897 and was one of the earliest modern academies of higher learning established in China.
3. Zhejiang releases the fourth batch of future community construction list
Zhejiang released the fourth batch of future community construction lists, which will include 30 new communities and 101 renovated communities, according to the local media outlets. Since Zhejiang published the work plan for pilot future community construction in 2019, there have been 4 batches of future community construction, with 281 communities included.
The future community will focus on low energy consumption through the use of photovoltaic power and constructing ultra-low energy buildings. A five-minute living circle will be created for the residents, allowing them to access the nearest subway station, department store, and school. Large-scale parks, small green spaces, commercial complexes as well as culture and activity centers will also be established for local residents.
4. Ningbo unveils five-year plan for the cultural sector
The Ningbo municipal government recently unveiled a five-year development plan for its cultural sector development. According to the plan, the city will strive to turn itself into a global cultural hub and a national spearhead in the film and television industry, digital culture industry, culture exports and the integration of finance and tourism with culture.
It aims to increase the revenue of local cultural enterprises above the designated size to 350 billion yuan ($53.8 billion) and have the added value of the cultural sector account for more than 10 percent of the city's GDP by 2025.
Support will be given to facilitate the application of digital technologies including big data, cloud computing, 5G, blockchain and artificial intelligence in the cultural sector. By 2025, the revenue of digital cultural enterprises above the designated size from the city is targeted to make up about 65 percent of the total from local cultural enterprises above the designated size.
5. 1st tunnel of 2nd phase of Hangzhou-Wenzhou railway completed
The Gutangyuan No 3 tunnel of the second phase of the Hangzhou-Wenzhou railway in East China's Zhejiang province was completed on Dec 14, 2021. The first tunnel of the second phase of the Hangzhou-Wenzhou railway was completed on Tuesday. The newly constructed 120-kilometer high-speed railway line, connecting Hangzhou and Yiwu with a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour, is an important part of China's high-speed railway network. Hangzhou-Wenzhou railway is expected to open in 2024.
