In this video, Katherine Anne Paul, the curator of Asian Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art gives us a brief introduction about the museum and shows us some of their fine Chinese silk collections. 


Founded in 1871 and named after the city of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, the city aspired to be an industrial powerhouse like its namesake. With abundant natural resources for cast iron and steelwork, it rose in prosperity, founding the Museum in 1951. Like most American museums, Chinese silks were among the first objects acquired for the collections.
