The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is the earliest and longest man-made canal in the world. With a total distance of more than 1700 kilometers, it starts from Beijing and ends in Hangzhou. The Grand Canal plays a great role in the exchange of economy and culture between southern and northern China, especially in the industrial and agricultural development in the canal line area.
Lingbi county has a deep connection with the Grand Canal. The Huashigang site in Jiangwei Village and the Zhangshi garden pavilion witness to the changes brought by the Grand Canal. The prosperity of canal transportation has made this unknown small town renowned for its beautiful natural look and the special stone structure.
The old Grand Canal was known as the name of Lingbi stone, but it has long since faded into history. Nowadays, the Xinbian River dug along the site of the Bianhe section of the Grand Canal is glowing with vigour. These two canals span millennia, witnessing the great changes of the time and the city.
