The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is the earliest and longest man-made canal in the world. With a total distance of more than 1700 kilometers, it starts from Beijing and ends in Hangzhou. It covers an area of 5,820 square kilometers and has a permanent population of 3.42 million, with jurisdiction over 2 districts, Wuxing and Nanxun, 3 counties, Deqing, Changxing, and Anji, as well as two high-level development platforms - South Taihu Lake New District and Yangtze River Delta (Huzhou) Industrial Cooperation Zone.
