A lecture titled "Perceiving Chinese Music" was held at the Communication University of Zhejiang (CUZ) by Professor Guo Jianlin. International students gained a deeper understanding of the history of popular music in China.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Guo led the international students to enjoy a traditional Chinese song called "Mo Li Hua". Professor Guo compares "Mo Li Hua" with the spread of Chinese culture, as the song has been circulated internationally and has been recomposed by many artists from foreign countries, it has now become a representative of Chinese music.
During the class, Professor Guo interacted with international students and discussed with them about popular songs in the 1980s. She motioned that 1986 is the "International Year of Peace’" The song "Tomorrow Will Be Better" composed by Luo Dayou invited more than 60 singers to sing together, echoing the theme of the International Year of Peace. It is one of the most successful charity songs in the history of Chinese music. She compares the song with “We Are the World” by Michael Jackson, both conveying a spirit of optimism and hoping for a brighter world in the future.
Music can transcend national boundaries, break language barriers, and trigger emotional resonance. This lecture not only deepened the international students' perception of Chinese music, but also enhanced their understanding and appreciation of traditional Chinese culture.
