Kim Moonjung manages a Korean cuisine restaurant in Huzhou, Zhejiang province. She moved to the South Taihu New District with her husband and children in 2018. Fueled by her passion for food culture, and with the encouragement of friends and neighbors, she first opened a Korean store, which gradually evolved into a Korean restaurant, gaining popularity in the local area.
Huzhou, situated on the southern shore of Taihu Lake, boasts abundant aquatic resources. In the South Taihu New District, people use fish, shrimp, and crabs to create exquisite delicacies, such as steamed white fish, Taihu whitebait soup, fish balls, and Taihu crabs. These dishes are renowned for their freshness and meticulous preparation methods. Kim often invites friends and family to taste the fresh lake food.
Kim believes there are similarities between Chinese and Korean food cultures. For instance, both have the tradition of celebrating traditional festivals and eating special snacks. Living in Huzhou, she and her family also embrace local customs by partaking in traditional foods like sweet dumplings, mooncakes, qingtuan, and rice cakes, enjoying a unique cultural experience.
