Jiande City is located in the west of Zhejiang Province, on the upper reaches of the Qiantang River. It connects Hangzhou in the east, Jinhua and Yiwu in the south, Quzhou in the west, and Qiandao Lake in the north. The city covers an area of 2,321 square kilometers and has a total population of 510,000.

Jiande has a history of nearly 1,800 years since it was established as a county during the Three Kingdoms period (AD 225). It used to be the seat of Gumuzhou and Yanzhou. In the long history of development, due to its unique beautiful scenery and the status of the political and cultural center of western Zhejiang, Jiande has been continuously visited by historical celebrities, such as Li Bai, Meng Haoran, Lu You, Fan Zhongyan and so on.

Historically, Jiande, as the transportation hub of the Qiantang River Basin, was the only place for merchants from western Zhejiang, southern Anhui and eastern Jiangxi to pass by. Today, Jiande has complete transportation conditions. At present, Jiande has 3 high-speed railways, 2 expressways, 1 water transport comprehensive wharf and Qiandaohu General Airport.

The two biggest features of Jiande are good living environment and good investment environment. It is an excellent tourist city in China, the first batch of national greening model cities, and a national-level ecological demonstration area. In May 2018, Jiande was rated as the first and currently only "China's Climate Livable City".
