Huangyan holds international folklore photography exhibition

The International Folklore Photography Window inaugural exhibition commenced in Huangyan district, Taizhou, Zhejiang province, on July 20.


Folklore photography serves as a means for individuals to express their interest in traditional, ethnic, and regional customs as well as their fondness for traditional culture in a globalized world. Huangyan boasts a rich folklore culture, with nearly 200 national, provincial, and municipal intangible cultural heritage projects, including bamboo carving and Taizhou Luantan opera.

The exhibition, with the theme "Athletics and Glory", showcases a hundred photographs selected from over 400,000 entries of the Humanity Photo Awards competition, illustrating the competitive folklore traditions from around the world.


The Humanity Photo Awards highlights the beauty and significance of global folklore captured by 22,000 photographers from 165 countries and regions over two decades through over 410,000 photographs taken in 181 countries and regions.


"We expect more global folklore photography exhibitions with diverse themes to be held, becoming a window for Huangyan and the rest of the world to see each other," said Zhang Wang, president of the China Folklore Photographic Association.


Following the opening ceremony, over 10 photographers from the association embarked on fieldwork activities in Huangyan, capturing the essence of local traditions at various sites.
