Hangzhou's Xixi Wetland welcomed its annual Gantang Festival, or Dry Pond Festival on Dec 7, bringing festive cheer and traditional fishing fun.

Amid vibrant red maples, golden ginkgoes, and snowy reeds, visitors gathered at the ponds to join the fish-catching frenzy. Participants waded into muddy waters, competing to catch fish, while cheers erupted for standout catches like the 29-kilogram "Fish King" and dazzling koi, later released to symbolize abundance and good fortune.

The festival, running until Jan 8, 2025, offers interactive activities such as fish weighing, photo ops, and fresh fish takeaways. Families will be able to enjoy special tickets for bonding experiences, while children can participate in educational workshops.

Other highlights include free Laba porridge and Xixi New Year goods delivered to local communities. Visitors will also have the chance to savor all-fish feasts or explore the wetlands via boat and scenic strolls, embracing the tranquil beauty of winter at Xixi.
