Hangzhou International Airport in Xiaoshan district was transformed into a futuristic stage on April 1 as AI-powered robots headlined a flash mob concert at Terminal 4, local media outlets reported.
Featuring Unitree G1 humanoid robots, robotic dogs, and AI-powered instruments, the performance blended cutting-edge technology with art, creating an immersive spectacle for travelers.
As soothing electronic music played, a G1 humanoid robot gracefully navigated the crowd, shaking hands with passengers. Meanwhile, lion dance-themed robotic dogs wowed onlookers with traditional moves like backflips and caiqing (the climactic ritual in traditional Chinese lion dance performances which mimics a lion plucking the greens to convey blessings and cultural values), synchronized to the beat of festive drums.
After the show, the robotic dogs switched to roaming mode, parading through Terminal 4's corridors. Travelers could even remotely control them, adding an interactive touch to the high-tech experience.
The event marked the launch of the airport's second tech festival, part of its broader push to integrate AI into airport services. From AI-powered passenger tracking at boarding gates to autonomous towing vehicles, the airport is driving smart aviation innovations.
"Leveraging Hangzhou's role as a tech hub, we will deepen collaboration with AI firms to revolutionize air travel," said Le Jiankun, vice-president of the airport.
