The Chinese and English editions of the book China's Development in the New Era - the Zhejiang Experience.

Recently, the Chinese and English editions of the book China's Development in the New Era - the Zhejiang Experience were published. The book is authored by David W. Ferguson, honorary chief English editor at Foreign Languages Press and a recipient of the Chinese Government Friendship Award. In over 60,000 words, he narrates his story of seeking the keys to China's development in Zhejiang.

Ferguson was born in Scotland, UK, and graduated with a law degree from the University of Edinburgh. He is fluent in English, French, German, and Italian, and has worked and lived in several countries. In 2004, he married his Chinese wife, marking the beginning of his connection with China. In 2006, he moved to China with his wife to pursue his career. He started working at China.org.cn in 2008 and reported on major events such as the Beijing Olympics and the Shanghai World Expo. Since 2010, he has been engaged in English editing and writing at Foreign Languages Press.

Amazed by the rapid changes in his second hometown,Ferguson wants the world to understand the real China. Over the years,he has worked on many important works. He is the main English editor of the four volumes of Xi Jinping:The Governance of China. He often compares and scrutinizes hundreds of thousands of words in manuscripts, carefully considering the choice of words and punctuation.

David Ferguson visited Zhejiang in 2023.

Having lived in China for 19 years, he has read countless books and traveled thousands of miles across the country. These experiences have given Ferguson a unique perspective on observing China and the inspiration to write books about China, including Nantong Tales, Sipping the Essence of Suzhou, Water Cities of Jiangsu Province and Building a Green Beijing, showcasing a positive, pragmatic, and open China to the world. In 2021, he received the Chinese Government Friendship Award for his outstanding contribution to cultural exchanges between China and other countries.

What are the keys to China's development?Over the years, whether editing,or writing,Ferguson has been searching for the answer.

In 2023,he visited Zhejiang to continue his exploration, still full of radiating energy of a young man despite approaching his 70s. He strolled across the land of Zhejiang, immersing himself in its unique customs and traditions.

Starting Jan 15,Zhejiang International Communication Center (ZICC) and Foreign Languages Press will jointly launch a series of reports titled Decode China:David Ferguson's Storytelling, inviting Ferguson to share his stories of China's development. Stay tuned.
