The first United Nations Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Week kicked off in Deqing county, Huzhou, Zhejiang province, on Oct 21.


With the tagline "Geospatial Ideas Benefiting Our World", the event focuses on exchanges and discussions on the innovative application scenarios of geospatial information.


During the opening ceremony, Navid Hanif, assistant secretary-general of the United Nations, Liu Guohong, deputy minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources, and Xu Wenguang, executive vice-governor of Zhejiang province, delivered speeches and inaugurated the International Institute for Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation.


The four-day event will feature six forums focusing on the development of the UN's comprehensive geospatial information framework. The global geospatial knowledge leadership symposium and the geographic information innovation and application exhibition will also take place simultaneously.


Over 700 representatives from relevant UN agencies, Chinese government departments, and more than 40 countries including the United States, Canada, Australia, India, and Tanzania, are participating in the event.
