Event held in Lisbon to enhance cultural exchanges

The book donation ceremony of A Comprehensive Collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings to Portugal and a concert of celadon Ou music were held at the University of Lisbon on Oct 10.

Huang Xianhai, vice president of Zhejiang University, presented the collection to the University of Lisbon, which will set up a Chinese book section at its library to display the collection, allowing Portuguese scholars and enthusiasts to explore and study Chinese culture.


The collection, compiled and published by Zhejiang University and Cultural Heritage Bureau of Zhejiang Province, is one of China's major cultural projects. It has cataloged 12,405 sets of Chinese paintings housed by more than 260 museums across the globe through high-resolution prints and digital technology, marking the most comprehensive collection and largest-scale publication of Chinese painting images to date.


Following the ceremony, audience enjoyed a concert performed by Cixi Celadon Ou Music Art Troupe. The genre of music, also known as “music of porcelain”, is played with instruments and wares made of clay.

Paulo Alberto, vice president of the University of Lisbon, said that the cooperation between the University of Lisbon and Chinese universities has yielded fruitful outcomes. This event is another demonstration of the friendship between both sides. Looking ahead, he expressed commitment towards deepening collaborations with universities in Zhejiang, contributing new strength and wisdom toward advancing education and culture as well as fostering mutual understanding between both sides.
