Jiaxing's foreign trade saw significant growth in the first eight months of this year. According to Jiaxing Customs, the total value of goods traded reached 316.59 billion yuan ($45.15 billion), a 10.4-percent increase over the same period last year.

In August alone, the city's imports and exports were valued at 43.53 billion yuan, up 12.4 percent year-on-year, ranking third in Zhejiang province. Exports were valued at 31.45 billion yuan, up 9.2 percent, while imports surged 21.7 percent to 12.07 billion yuan.

Trade with Europe and the United States has accelerated. In August, the EU and the US were Jiaxing's top two export markets, with exports growing by 13.2 percent and 15.1 percent, respectively. Additionally, exports to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative reached 13.03 billion yuan, up 8 percent.

Imports from ASEAN, South Korea, and the Middle East also saw strong growth. In August, imports from the three places increased by 50.5 percent, 130 percent, and 77 percent, respectively.

Imports of mechanical and electrical products increased by 45.5 percent in August, accounting for 50.4 percent of the city's total imports.
