In Hangzhou's Jianqiao sub-district, 50 "Love Fridges" have become a popular spot for delivery drivers, couriers, and sanitation workers to grab a free popsicle and beat the heat. These fridges, placed outside stores, offer a much-needed respite from the scorching summer months.
The initiative started in 2020, when Xin Jun, a former delivery driver and now a popsicle wholesale shop owner, decided to give back to outdoor workers. Since then, his "Love Fridges" have offered free popsicles every summer. Last year alone, over 100,000 popsicles, worth around 150,000 yuan ($20,948), were given out, with this year's number expected to reach 150,000.
Xin's kindness has inspired others, with fellow business owners and even customers joining in to support the cause. He now plans to establish a charity organization to continue spreading coolness and love across the city.
