Zhejiang Daily wins UN award for heritage education innovation

UNESCO's World Heritage Committee holds its 46th session from July 21 to 31 in New Delhi, India. The winner list of the 2024 Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases (AWHEIC) was announced at a side event themed "Science, Creativity and Empowerment: World Heritage Education Towards the Future" during the session.


Zhejiang Daily Press Group's case Bringing National Treasures to Life, initiated by Zhejiang International Communication Center, won the Star of Discovery award.

This year's awards received over 100 cases from around the world and 30 winning cases were selected.Major awards include Star of Outstanding, Star of Discovery and Star of Future.


Cases from Azerbaijan, China's Shaanxi province and Macao SAR are also awarded as Star of Discovery.

Bringing National Treasures to Life project, focusing on the digitalization of cultural relics in China, especially the grottoes, is an omni-media project conducted by several reporting departments of Zhejiang Daily Press Group. It aims to tell the efforts of digitalization team has done on bringing Chinese cultural heritage to the reach of more people.

The team spent several months on researching, interviewing and field study, and reported in genres including news, videos, posters and HTML 5 pages, allowing readers to immerse themselves in the charms of cultural heritages. With overall views of over 1.1 million, the report series received attention and applauses both home and abroad.

The side event of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee's 46th session was held on July 23.


The AWHEIC is co-organized by the World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for the Asia and the Pacific Region under the auspices of UNESCO (WHITRAP) and the International Center for the UNESCO ASPnet (ICUA) in the hope to build an international platform focusing on the innovation of World Heritage Education models, aiming to promote the sharing of relevant international experience and future cooperation and contribute to the comprehensive and sustainable development of heritage sites.
