The 2nd "Silk Road Week" (hereinafter, SRW) themed "Cultural Diversity and Sustainable Development" kicked off its opening ceremony at China National Silk Museum in Hangzhou on June 18, 2021.

The organizers of the 2nd SRW include the National Cultural Heritage Administration and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province. High-profiled figures and organizations such as UNESCO, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the British Museum, and other world-leading artistic and professional institutes either sent congratulatory letters or visual greetings to the event.

One big difference compared with last year, is that the 2nd session will set up three parallel venues in Xi'an of Shannxi Province, Lanzhou of Gansu Province, and Fuzhou of Fujian Province. The SRW will roll out a series of exhibitions, online games, seminars, forums, and other engaging activities for visitors and online netizens for this year.

In addition to the house activities in the China National Silk Museum, many institutions in China and abroad will jointly organize cultural events, such as the cultural relics' poster relays, online silk road pattern coloring game, and so forth.

The first edition of Silk Road Week was held successfully in Hangzhou in June 2020 and had attracted over 200 international museums and institutions to engage in various online and offline events. As an international cultural event, SRW aims to celebrate the anniversary of the day when the "Silk Road - from Chang'an to the Tianshan Corridor" was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on June 22, 2014.
