Perishable waste being processed into organic fertilizers is the "new approach" used by locals at the Juying Home in Binjiang Street, Lucheng District, Wenzhou City. "In August last year, we asked the residents to take their waste to the sites with intelligent disposal equipment at a fixed time, and conduct classified placement according to different categories such as waste paper, metal, glass, perishable waste," said Zhuo Xiaoyan, a community cadre of Binjiang Street.

At the beginning of this year, Juying Home built an ecological house for the treatment of perishable wastes and introduced professional equipment with a daily processing capacity of one ton for the house, so as to realize the on-site conversion of perishable waste into organic fertilizer.

"There are more than 2,000 permanent residents in this community, who produce more than 300 kg of perishable wastes every day, which can be converted into more than 50 kg of organic fertilizers," Zhuo Xiaoyan said.

At the same time, the "red housekeepers" have synchronously been implementing the "vegetable shoots plan" and constructed a vegetable garden named "Parent-child One Meter Vegetable Garden" in the community. The organic fertilizer is applied in this small vegetable garden to guide children to develop a good habit of waste sorting from their childhood.

Under the guidance of "red housekeepers", Juying Home has also set up "waste sorting supervision vanguard" and "female volunteer vanguard". There are 16 supervisors in yellow vests patrolling the waste disposal sites every day.

"Red housekeepers" also trace the situation of waste sorting through QR code and video monitoring. In addition, residents with correct sorting can be awarded points, while those with wrong sorting will be listed in the "blacklist". The correct disposal rate of perishable waste of Juying Home used to be 40%, and now it has increased to 99%.
