The groundbreaking ceremony for Yungu Campus of Westlake University took place in Xihu District of Hangzhou, east China’s Zhejiang Province, on April 3, 2019. Shi Yigong, the first president of Westlake University, also a renowned structural biologist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the ceremony.
Professor Shi, together with staff and donors, planted 43 cherry blossom trees after the ceremony.
Located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, Westlake University is China's first modern private research-oriented university with aspirations to become one of the world's top research institutes.
The Yungu Campus with a total floor space of some 456,000 square meters is the main campus of the university. The construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
