Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr, vice president of International Olympic Committee (IOC) and founder of the Samaranch Foundation, visited the Hangzhou Asian Games Museum on May 8 to donate exhibits.
Upon his over 60 visits to China in recent years, Samaranch Jr expressed his deep connection with the region, particularly highlighting Hangzhou as one of his favorite places.
"I'm quite familiar with museums, especially Olympic museums, and this one stands out due to its impressive infrastructure. Therefore, we've decided to keep the sculpture here at the Hangzhou Asian Games Museum," said Samaranch Jr during the donation ceremony.
Samaranch Jr noted the museum's capability to draw and entertain visitors effectively。"It's not just the existence of the museum that's impressive—it's how well it serves to profit and attract visitors. I wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone," he said.
The Hangzhou Asian Games Museum, officially opened on Sept 28, 2023, during the Hangzhou Asian Games, provides the entirety of the 19th Asiad's legacy, especially its icons, such as the emblem, medals, mascots and torches. It also preserves the Games' memory, featuring photos of the gold-medal winners from previous Asiads.
