An event commemorating the birth 82 years ago of renowned Chinese writer and translator Sanmao was held on March 26 in Telde – located in Spain's Canary Islands, where she lived for many years.

Sanmao was the pen name of Chen Ping. She was a Chinese writer and translator from Taiwan, who wrote more than 20 books ranging from autobiographical writing, travel writing, and reflective novels to translations of Spanish-language comic strips.

Her ancestral residence, built by her grandfather, is located in Chenjia village, Dinghai district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province.

The event was a collaborative effort by the Telde municipal government, the Dinghai Sanmao Research Association, and the Chinese Association of the Canary Islands.
