Zhejiang Sanoway Company, located in Jinhua, recently showcased its bustling production line on Feb 11, where ice skates were being produced through injection molding, stitching, and assembly.
Factory Director Wang Meng highlighted the company's increasing order volume, buoyed by the burgeoning domestic ice and snow economy. "The orders have been scheduled through mid-April, with employees gradually returning to work and production capacity rebounding to pre-holiday levels," Wang said.
Specializing in sports goods manufacturing, the company primarily produces ice skates and roller skates. Previously, it focused on overseas sales, with 90 percent of its orders exported to Europe and America.
To capitalize on the domestic ice and snow economy, the company redirected some production capacity toward the domestic market. In 2024, it produced over 1.2 million pairs of ice skates and roller skates.
The ice and snow economy has provided growth opportunities for many manufacturing enterprises in Jinhua, such as Zhejiang Shengqi Glove Co, whose skiing gloves and magic gloves sell well in the three northeast provinces of China.
The company's sales surged by over 8 million yuan ($1.10 million) in 2022, fueled by the Beijing Winter Olympics, according to Chen Xiaodong, the company's executive director.
Despite the opportunities, challenges persist in the competitive glove market, prompting the company to focus on innovation, cost reduction, and enhancing product appeal to younger consumers. Similarly, Sanoway Company prioritizes product quality, securing numerous design patents for their ice skates.
