At the ecological organic fish farming area of Qianxia Lake in Qingtian county, Lishui, Zhejiang province, a batch of 200-kilogram bighead carp was shipped to be processed and packaged and will embark on its first journey to Singapore on Nov 4.
Following in the footsteps of bayberries and brown sugar, Qianxia Lake's fish heads have become yet another agricultural product from Qingtian county to be exported overseas. Qingtian's total exports so far this year amount to 2.26 billion yuan ($315.65 million), with agricultural exports valued at 77.22 million yuan.
"The fish from Qianxia Lake are wild and natural. It takes six to eight years to complete the entire farming-to-fishing process, and this is why our organic fish are tender and delicious," said Chen Guangmei, chairman of Zhejiang Fenghe Fisheries Co.
Qianxia Lake's organic fish have earned a good reputation overseas. Chen said that apart from exporting to Singapore, the company has also connected with countries like Cambodia and Malaysia and expects to export 40 metric tons of organic fish next year.
Qianxia Lake's fish head is the first aquatic product to be exported from Qingtian, enhancing the confidence of Qingtian enterprises in exporting aquatic products and promoting the development of the local aquaculture industry, according to a representative from Lishui Customs.
