Chinese characters are an indispensable part of Chinese civilization. Composed of simple characters or a combination of radicals and complex associated characters, Chinese is considered one of the most difficult languages on Earth!

May 15 marks the International Day of Families, a day that highlights the importance of families as a basic unit of society. On this occasion, we are to get you acquainted with the Chinese word “家”.

The Chinese character “家” bears several meanings. It may refer to the “building”, including an apartment or villa without any emotion, or “family”, a humanistic concept embodying emotion and relationships with people, or even a “nation” in a grander notion. While in English, those concepts are expressed with different words.

In our first episode, Dongpo Paul will talk about the word “家” in detail. Get ready to think in a “Chinese” way!
